Film Naam Shabana Review: It is praiseworthy to watch once for capable performance of Taapsee Pannu and Akshay Kumar.

With Naam Shabana, director Neeraj Pandey choses Shivam Nair for the spinoff of his previous movie Baby. While Neeraj has written the story, he hasn’t directed the film.

Earlier, Neeraj Pandey and Akshay Kumar had joined hands together for a crack spy thriller named Baby, which had made us assured that Hindi Film Industry has finally arrived when it comes to spy fiction on the silver screen.

The movie was such a big hit that it encouraged the makers to make a separate movie on one of the characters from Baby named Shabana (Taapsee Pannu) and thus was Naam Shabana conceived. But, does it match up to the cleverness of Baby?

The events in this movie occur three years before Baby and revolves around Shabana Khan (Taapsee Pannu), a girl with a dark past, who is employed by Ranveer (Manoj Bajpayee), a senior officer of a secret agency, who also helps her seek vengeance for the murder of her boyfriend. Shabana is trained to be a killing machine and is soon deployed to abolish Mikhail, a ruthless arms dealer, who was responsible for killing two Indian agents in Austria. How Shabana manages to complete her mission with the help of her senior officer Ajay Singh Rathod (Akshay Kumar), forms the rest of the plot.

After Pink performance, Taapsee is quite good in her action scenes as well as her intense and dramatic scenes in the film and it is obvious that the girl has put in her blood, tears and sweat in this role. Bajpayee is fairly good as the intelligence officer, who recruits Shabana, though his heavy North Indian accent makes him sound funny when he mouths some dialogues in English. South star Prithviraj though is completely futile in a badly written role while Akshay Kumar in his cameo, is naturally worthy to watch. The support cast, Danny Denzongpa and Anupam Kher are good in their roles.

A movie featuring an ass-kicking female protagonist is bound to be liked by everybody and Naam Shabana does have its moments, though that doesn’t mean the many mistakes in the movie are to be overlooked. The first half indulges the protagonist and her love interest, Jai too much. It is only post-intermission, particularly the last 35 minutes in which proceedings pick up. Sticking to a typical-action drama narrative that jumps from Mumbai to Goa, Vienna to Kuala Lumpur, with the arms dealer and the ISI agents playing a cat-and-mouse game, the movie, is more a fantasy fare than a realistic one.

Director Neeraj Pandey, who has chosen the pen (credited for story, dialogues and screenplay) and passed on the megaphone (to director Shivam Nair) for this one, drafts a commercially feasible project. But Nair's version dilutes Pandey's thriller elements to some extent as the movie could've done better if it were a bit more tense and tighter. The movie suffers from is its messy production values and its ordinary special effects.

Neeraj’s screenplay isn’t as taut as his earlier outings either. It lacks the depth of A Wednesday, Baby and Special 26. Unlike his earlier stints, even the most important operations, thrilling escapades and edge-of-the-seat suspense sequences are foreseeable.

Overall, it is worthy to watch once for able act of Taapsee Pannu and Akshay Kumar.

It is a mysterious fact about Salman Khan's relationship status. While so-called girlfriend Iulia Vantur is a constant mate of Salman and the Khan family, it was not clear if the two are still together, romantically.

Lately, the Khans headed to stunning Maldives to ring in Arpita Khan's little one Ahil's first birthday. As natural, Iulia was seen accompanying the Khans and relishing the sunny locales of the city.

But, a recent picture of Salman and Iulia, that has appeared on the net, has the two love-birds hugging and indulging in some public display of affection. Now, isn't that something?

Check out these images of Salman and Iulia, where they seem very much in love. Well, it seems like we finally know Salman's relationship status and we do hope it concludes into something serious this time. We would love for this entitled bachelor to finally get hitched, wouldn't we?

Kriti Sanon, Huma Qureshi and Sidhanth Kapoor are clicked by paparazzi!

Kriti Sanon is clicked here in the city by the paparazzi. The beautiful lady of Bollywood was seen wearing a green top and brown capris.

Also seen here is Huma Qureshi, who was snapped driving away in her car. The actress seemed to be in a rush to get away.

Also snapped was Sidhanth Kapoor, who is ready to rock it in the movie Haseena, along with sister Shraddha Kapoor.

No Sanjay Dutt and Alia Bhatt’s Jodi for Naam sequel!

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, who is presently busy shooting for his upcoming film Bhoomi, hit headlines after news suggested that the actor has given his nod for the sequel to Mahesh Bhatt's 1986 film Naam.

The news even suggested that the actor will be seen essaying the role of a father to Alia Bhatt in the film.

So, we got in touch with Mahesh Bhatt to know if there is any truth to the story. Rebutting the rumours, Bhatt told, "No truth. This is merely a rumour."

When asked if there are any discussions in place on a future collaboration for Naam's sequel, the director further added, "Even if I want to I can't. Naam is late Rajendra Kumar's property."

The 1986 film was directed by Mahesh Bhatt and produced by Rajendra Kumar. The film starring Nutan, Sanjay Dutt, Kumar Gaurav, Poonam Dhillon, Amrita Singh and Paresh Rawal in pivotal roles was a blockbuster and is regarded as a milestone in the careers of director Mahesh Bhatt, Paresh Rawal and Sanjay Dutt.

Speaking about Naam, Mahesh Bhatt in an earlier interview told, "Even though it was a two-hero project, Rajendra Kumar knew that the audience’s sympathies would eventually swing from Kumar Gaurav’s character Ravi to Sanju’s bad boy Vicky.”

He even praised Sanju's act in the movie. “I never saw that kind of focus in Sanju again. With his stunning performance, he broke people’s, heart. We became a lifelong friend and years later, on the eve of his departure to the Yerwada Jail, I remember sitting with him and feeling as helpless as Kumar Gaurav’s character in Naam because there was so little that I could do for him," the filmmaker had told in a previous interview.

Riteish-Vivek starrer Bank-Chor becomes a first 16D film to activate all senses for a viewer!

Film Bank-Chor produced under the Y-Films banner [the youth wing of Yash Raj Films (YRF)] is the first feature movie in the world to release in 16D. The poster of the film starring Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Rhea Chakraborty is finally out.

The film revolves around three friends who try to rob a bank and probably pick the worst day to do the job. It is set to release worldwide on June 16, 2017.

In the poster, the trio are seen disguised as a Baba, an elephant and a horse in order to pursue their robbery mission.

Well, coming to the film, the movie has been designed with the next level of technology and immersive experiences where 16D helps activate all senses for a viewer in terms of touch, sight, hearing, smell, taste and also thought, imagination & feeling. In fact, the exhibitors and multiplexes are seemingly planning to keep a medical staff on stand-by, as the experience could get too overwhelming for most viewers, who typically use just five senses. Scary, isn't it?

Talking about the film, Riteish Deshmukh told, “I’m thrilled to be a part of this first-ever technological innovation in the Indian Film Industry. 3D is so last season when you have 16D! I’m certain Bank-Chor will steal a lot of hearts but since you can’t take chances, I’m also keeping a 16-day fast and chanting Om Y-Films O Namah 16 times a day… am told it really works!”

While Vivek Oberoi told, “This is ground-breaking stuff and the first time I experienced it, it really rocked my world. The Bank-Chor gang is going to more than just tickle all your senses with this m-e-n-t-a-l experience. We also consulted famed numerologist from Chinchpokli, Baba Champak Chandrakant Chiplunkar, who advised us on 16th June being the right release date… now there’s no stopping us!”

The film has been directed by Bumpy and produced by Ashish Patil.

Khan trio and husband wish to Kareena for her first dance performance after Taimur’s birth!

Kareena Kapoor Khan has constantly managed to grab our attention. Post pregnancy, Kareena is all set to burn the dance floor at Zee Cine Awards 2017 and the pictures of her act have already gone viral. Admirers have been waiting to see Kareena creating a buzz through her moves as the show will finally air tomorrow.

Before the show goes on air, all the four Khans of Bollywood have wished Kareena for her performance. Starting from husband, Saif Ali Khan told, “I am very proud and congratulate you (Kareena) to be back on stage and I am glad it is the Zee Cine Awards stage.” The two have been in news ever since the birth of their son, Taimur.

Next one is Shah Rukh Khan who has worked with her in movies like Asoka and Ra.One was not far behind in congratulating Kareena. He told, “Only one word describes all her beauty and naughtiness – Chammak Chhalo!” Yes, who can forget her sizzling moves in Chammak Chhalo!

Salman Khan also sent a message for his heroine and told, “I met her for the first time when she was 9 years old and I knew she would be a big star one day!” We have seen Salman and Kareena's chemistry in movies like Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Bodygaurd.

Kareena's 3 Idiots co-star Aamir Khan also wished her and told, “It is always a lot of fun working with you Kareena.”

Kaabil director’s dig at SRK?

Well, it is no top-secret that this year started with the clash of the geniuses as Shah Rukh Khan's Raees and Hrithik Roshan's Kaabil released on the same day. This affected both Raees and Kaabil's box office collections, but despite numerous efforts the clash couldn't be averted.

Rakesh Roshan, Kaabil's producer did not want to shift the release date. He was quoted telling that he cannot do anything if the movie is clashing with SRK's movie as he had pronounced the release date much prior. Despite much discussions and meeting between the two teams, the twosome failed to come to any conclusions.

In fact, Rakesh Roshan even alleged later that the exhibitor were giving a leverage to SRK's Raees by giving them more screens.

Well, now SRK's film is all set to clash with another superstar's movie. It is none other than Akshay Kumar starrer Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. Well, the Kaabil director Sanjay Gupta took this as an opportunity to post a sly tweet which seemed to be an indirect dig at SRK.

For the uninitiated, previously this week, it was pronounced that Akshay Kumar's movie which was previously slated to release in May has now been pushed to an August release. Imtiaz Ali's next starring SRK and Anushka is also scheduled to release around the same time.

Sanjay Gupta in his tweet posted, "KARMA, you beauty! I love and believe in you so much. I love how you go after all that f*** with you. KARTAM BHUKTAM on Independence Day.”

But, the director later deleted his tweet.

Raveena Tandon opens up about comparison amongst her film Maatr and Sridevi's Mom!

Bollywood actresses Raveena Tandon and Sridevi have been the ultimate divas of their eras and both with their enigmatic acts created a stir amongst their admirers. Now, the two are coming with their projects, Maatr and Mom. But, soon after the posters came out, there were comparisons being drawn between both the movies.

In an interview with a famous agency, Raveena told, "She is a senior, I respect her a lot and I've always been the biggest fan of hers. I am proud that, whether it's Pink, Mom or Maatr, our industry is making these films today. I hope such films are made more. So, there is no comparison. I feel a message like this should be given at least six months a year to wake up people."

Speaking about her comeback, she told, "I find that a very strange term. Nobody uses it internationally. Everyone becomes selective after a while. I worked in the '90s where we used to do 30 films at a time. But the whole trend has changed. As an actor, I've reached a point where I'll do a film which I believe in."

"I did a couple of films in the middle which went to festivals, I completed Onir's 'Shabh'. I don't see myself going anywhere. I've been working on TV all along. After I have done 'Maatr' and 'Shabh', I don't know when I'll do a film again. How many times will I make a comeback," Raveena further added.

She also opened up on the issues like rape. She told, "The mindset needs to change. Often we see comments like 'why did she wear a jeans, skirt, or why was she out so late', they are shaming the victim more. Rather than saying they are our sisters, daughters, and we apologize as political leaders that we failed to protect them..."

Raveena Tandon’s comeback with revenge drama Maatr; Watch trailer!

Actress Raveena Tandon returns to the silver screen with Maatr as a strong-willed mother filled with revenge. The movie that also marks the comeback of Tandon has already generated a lot of buzz and the trailer released today, will only add to the excitement.

Emphasizing on the heinous crime such as rape, the movie follows the life of a mother who takes charge to seek justice for her daughter after the society and the judiciary fail her. She is out there to take revenge from the criminals who destroyed her daughter's life. They are powerful, capable of doing anything but here is a mother standing up against all of them in her quest for justice.

Raveena proves yet again why she is one of the best actresses we have.

It traces her journey from being a law abiding citizen to that of a person who is forced to take law into her own hands.

Will her vengeance triumph over judiciary? Will she be able to do justice for her daughter? Well, we will have to wait and watch for the tale to unfold.

The film also confronts us with some chilling fact, it ends saying that as each of us watch this trailer, and a girl got raped in some part of the country.

Written by Michael Pellico, Maatr also features Divya Jagdale, Anurag Arora in pivotal roles. The movie has been directed by Ashtar Sayed and is set to hit the theatres on April 21, 2017.

Alia Bhatt graces the cover of Grazia with her hot avatar!

Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt presently is busy celebrating the huge success of her latest release Badrinath Ki Dulhania, where she was seen romancing Varun Dhawan. The film crossed the 100-crore club last week and Alia, as well as Varun Dhawan's act, were much-admired by the viewers and critics alike. Work does not stop for her! She is kicking April off with her appearance on the cover of Grazia Magazine!

As Grazia rejoices their 9th anniversary, they picked the young and restless Alia Bhatt for the cover. Photographed by Tarun Vishwa Alia is seen wearing Savio Jon along with Tommy Hilfiger and Dior. She was seen sporting the wet hair look as she wore a dewy face of makeup. The top she wore had a deep-v-back and deep sleeves as she flaunted her petite frame.  The top was tucked into a striped skirt which had the signature blue, red and white of Tommy Hilfiger on it.

Film Noor Music Review: Melodious and pleasant album with songs Uff Yeh Noor and Gulabi 2.0!

When a film’s music album has the name Amaal Mallik attached to it, you do anticipate certain class in the soundtracks. His songs in Badrinath Ki Dulhania are already doing well and now that he is answerable for all four songs in Noor (with Manoj Muntashir and Kumaar chipping in as the lyricists), you anticipate the composer to keep Noor on a high as well.

1. Uff Yeh Noor

The soundtrack begins with Uff Yeh Noor. A song that could well have got you into the mood of some rock-n-roll had it been posturized on a leading lady, this one has actually put together for a montage sequence featuring Sonakshi Sinha. A feel good breezy number with some decent lyrics by Manoj Muntashir that narrate a day in life of the main protagonist.

2. Gulabi 2.0

The next song is Gulabi 2.0 which is the recreated version of Gulabi Aankhen Jo Teri Dekhi from R.D. Burman and Anand Bakshi's The Train. Luckily though, this one isn't one of those lazy redone versions that trust entirely on a yesteryear song that has been popular for decades. Instead, it just picks the hook-line of Gulabi Aankhen and indeed lives up to its title of Gulabi 2.0 as it is taken to the next level by Kumaar, what with a cool club sound that is given ample support by Amaal Mallik, Tulsi Kumar & Yash Narvekar. It is a tuneful number.

3.  Jise Kehte Pyaar Hai

In the next one, Sukriti Kakar, who had gone all forceful and passionate with the title track Rustom Vahi [Rustom], gets into the lovey-dovey zone for Jise Kehte Pyaar Hai. A romantic song written by Kumaar that could well be the call of first love, this one has a smooth flow to it and stays harmless right through its duration.

4. Hai Zaroori

In the next, Prakriti Kakar gets her big break with Hai Zaroori. She goes solo for this pathos-filled song that is written well by Manoj Muntashir. A song which narrates the story of a broken heart, this one maintains a decent pace right through its proceeding without turning into a sob fest.

Overall, the music of Noor is appealing and melodious with four songs with one (Gulabi 2.0) finding a repeat version. Moreover, an overall pleasant nature of the soundtrack guarantees that in the film too, the songs are likely to integrate well.

The songs Uff Yeh Noor, Gulabi 2.0 are pleasant and tuneful numbers.

Harsh goes for Gold!

Anil Kapoor hasn’t shared screen space with his daughter Sonam yet in her 7-year-long career, but he’ll work with his son Harshvardhan a lot quicker than that!

The baap-beta jodi are in talks to play Apjit and Abhinav Bindra in a biopic about India’s first individual gold medallist at the Olympics. The film about the professional shooter will be directed by Kannan Iyer, who says it’ll be as much of a father-son story as it will be a tale of Abhinav’s achievements in the sport. This could be the making of Harsh.

Saif returns to Zombie-Land!

Saif Ali Khan is gearing up to make a sequel to Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK’s 2013 zombie comedy Go Goa Gone.

The Nawab has begun discussing plots with the director duo, but all final decisions will have to wait until their next movie Reload releases in August. What I do know for sure is that the main characters from the original will return for part 2, which means that it’ll once again center on Kunal Kemmu, Vir Das and Saif himself. For all other details, check back here in the second half of 2017!

2.0 goes to the bank!

2.0 doesn’t release till October but S. Shankar has already pocketed a fat sum for its satellite rights!

Apparently a TV channel has shelled out over $16.5 million for the rights to the sci-fi flick’s Tamil, Telugu and Hindi versions. If the figure is correct then this is the highest price ever paid for the satellite rights of a regional film, which is fitting since 2.0 is supposed to be India’s most expensive film ever at a budget of $60 million. I’m sure the Rajnikath and Akshay Kumar starrer will live up to all the hype.

Say hello thanks to Salman!

The smartphone industry is set for a burst of star power after Salman Khan’s charity announced plans to make and sell Android mobile phones.

The cell-phones will target the entry to mid-level market, and Salu is already working out a deal with a Chinese plant that will manufacture the devices for him. The phones will cost under $300 and, in keeping with his promise, Salman will donate all the profits from the sales to the needy. With Bhai’s fan following, these phones are going to sell like hot cakes!

Benedict Cumberbatch to stop time in Matt Haig's adaptation!

Benedict Cumberbatch played a man who could travel to different dimensions in Dr. Strange.

Now he’s going to pause time itself in a new film adaptation of Matt Haig’s book How To Stop Time. Ben will star as a seemingly ordinary 41-year-old man named Tom Hazard who’s been alive for centuries because of an extremely rare condition. Insiders say How To Stop Time will be a The Time Travelers Wife-meets-The Curious Case of Benjamin Button kinda love story. You know, I think I’d actually watch that!

Dolly Parton pledges $1,000 a month for families hit by Tennessee fires!

Dolly Parton is a global superstar, but she remains a country girl at heart.

That’s why the music legend vowed to help those who lost everything in wildfires that swept through East Tennessee last year. Dolly immediately set up a charitable fund with a goal to providing $1,000 a month for six months to families whose homes were destroyed. And thanks to help from both regular folks and her famous friends, Dolly just sent out 921 checks. The fund is still going, so make sure to check out how you can help too.

Ridley Scott to direct Getty kidnapping drama!

Ridley Scott in is final negotiations to direct a drama called All the Money in the World, which will tell the true story of the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III.

For those of you who might not know the story, the 16-year-old John’s oil tycoon grandfather refused to pay the ransom for the longest time despite desperate pleas from John’s mother. If all goes to plan then All the Money in the World will begin filming in May, and Ridley will cast Natalie Portman as John’s mother Abigail. I’ll keep you in the loop on this one.

Jaden Smith and Cara Delevingne to star in film ‘Life in a Year’!

Cara Delevingne and Jaden Smith are set to costar in the Slovenian director Mitja Okorn’s first English feature called Life in a Year.

The romantic drama will centre on a 17-year-old boy who tries to cram life's major milestones into 12 months when he finds out his girlfriend only has a year left to live. The love story will intertwine teen angst with terminal illness, and sounds like it might have a bit of a hangover from The Fault in Our Stars!

Costume jewelry worn by Hollywood's Golden Age stars up for auction!

You might never be able to get your hands on the Heart of the Ocean, but there’s some other seriously cool movie bling up for grabs at the moment.

About 700 pieces made by the Hollywood costume jeweler Eugene Joseff are currently on display at a museum in Dublin before they’re auctioned in LA this November. The pieces include Clark Gable's gold engraved cigar case from Gone With The Wind and Marilyn Monroe's gold and pearl drop earrings from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. If you’re a mad movie buff and can afford the splurge then I suggest you check out the memorabilia on offer.

'Jungle Book 2' already in works with Jon Favreau to direct!

Jon Favreau’s animal connection is going strong!

The man behind The Jungle Book reboot has just signed a deal to direct a continuation of Mowgli’s story, AND a live-action version of The Lion King! The Lion King will drop first, and I’m happy to reveal that James Earl Jones has agreed to reprise his voice role as Mufasa. Jon has also cast Donald Glover as Simba and he’s currently on the lookout for his new Sarabi, Nala, Timon, Pubmaa and Rafiki. I’ll let you know who he signs, when he signs them!

Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep and Steven Spielberg unite for 'The Post'!

Steven Spielberg took some time off after The BFG, but now he’s ready to get back to work with a film that will unite two acting dynamos for the first time ever.

The A-lister is making a film about the Washington Post’s role in exposing the Pentagon Papers in 1971, and he’s roped in Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks to headline it. Tom will play the paper’s editor Ben Bradlee and Meryl will star as his publisher Kay Graham, who both defied the government to print the top-secret documents. I wouldn’t be surprised to see The Post earn Meryl her 21st Oscar nomination.

Shawn Mendes to star in musical movie 'Summer of Love'!

Musicals are in again thanks to La La Land, and their popularity has been enough to convince Shawn Mendes that it’s time to hit the big screen!

The Canadian singer behind hits like Stiches and Treat You Better has signed Ivan Reitman's original musical Summer of Love. The movie will be set during the summer of 1967, when a group of 100,000 people, mostly made up of young hippies, converged in San Francisco to oppose the Vietnam War. I think that’s a story that needs to be told in this day and age.

Charlize Theron to star in Universal's spy thriller 'Need to Know'!

Charlize Theron has inked a deal to both produce and star in an adaptation of Karen Cleveland’s book Need to Know.

The spy thriller is inspired from Karen’s own experiences as an analyst for the CIA, and it’ll tell the story of a wife and mother who makes a shocking discovery while unmasking a Russian sleeper cell in the US. If you enjoyed watched Charlize kick butt in Mad Max: Fury Road then you’ll probably love this one.

Uma Thurman to star in Lars Von Trier’s ‘The House That Jack Built’!

Uma Thurman and Lars von Trier are reuniting for a new project called The House That Jack Built.

The duo that first teamed up for Lars’s scandalous drama Nymphomaniac will once again collaborate for the tale of a serial killer named Jack and the five murders he commits. Lars has cast Matt Dillon as his psychopathic murderer in the movie that spans 12 years. I’d say there’s a good chance The House That Jack Built will be as controversial as Nymphomaniac was.

Is Jennifer Lopez dating Alex Rodriguez?

Jennifer Lopez only split from Drake a few weeks ago, but cupid’s arrow has found her again.

The ageless star is dating the recently retired baseball legend Alex Rodriguez, whose nickname A-Rod is as awesome as her own a JLo! Friends of the couple say they’re ridiculously compatible since they’re of similar ages, have kids and are both of Latino backgrounds. Time will tell if that means they’ll stay together for the long haul.

Niki Caro to direct Disney's live-action “Mulan”!

Disney’s search for a director for its live-action adaptation of Mulan is finally over.

After months of searching and a polite “no thanks” from Ang Lee, the studio has signed Niki Caro to helm the movie. The deal makes Niki only the second female filmmaker to direct a film with a budget of over $100 million, which is definitely nothing to turn your nose up at. I suggest you catch up on her excellent body of work that includes Whale Rider and The Zookeeper’s Wife before Mulan hits screens in November 2018.

Jake Scott to direct thriller “The Burning Woman”!

Jake Scott is making a second feature film that will once again be backed by his famous dad Ridley.

The new project will be called The Burning Woman, and its cast includes the likes of Sienna Miller, Jacki Weaver, Christina Hendricks and Aaron Paul. The drama will follow a woman whose life is changed when her teenage daughter mysteriously disappears and she’s left to raise her young grandson on her own.
